ARABIC

In the lower grades- students are learning to read, write and pronounce the Arabic alphabet while listening to cassette or video tapes. Using pictures they learn more words and related simple sentences. Speaking skills are emphasized to give the students more vocabulary and improve their handwriting .

At the higher grade levels, students are learning Arabic grammar and how to write a paragraph about a given topic , expanding and enriching their vocabulary , developing their ability to identify and evaluate the different types of literature. Each grade level will give a written and oral report about a different Arabic country including the capital city, culture, history and population .

URDU

Phonics forms the basis of learning in any language and is the foremost area of emphasis. Proper usage of grammar and the ability to join phrases correctly are also very important. Grades 1-3 should be able to count in Urdu and be able to write both numbers and the corresponding number names in words. Students of grades 4 to 9 need special emphasis on skills that enable them to summarize and paraphrase effectively. The teaching of these skills forms the core of the Urdu language curriculum.

FRENCH

First- Level French
This course introduces the basic structures of the French Language; simple vocabulary, elementary grammatical structures, present tenses of regular and irregular verbs. Stressing communication skills, understanding, speaking, reading, and writing. The Discovering French features videocassettes and student's work with audiotapes in the classroom. An understanding of French culture is initiated. Oral and written tests and quizzes are given throughout the year.

Second-Level French
This course continues the development of all communication skills with increasing emphasis on oral French. The Discovering French is used with video and audiotapes. Vocabulary is further developed while students learn more complex grammatical structures, the present and past tense of all regular and irregular verbs, diverse pronouns and their placement, possessive and demonstrative adjectives and added texts include a short play. Cultural components continue. Daily assignments, oral and written tests and quizzes are given through out the year.

These courses prepare students to be citizens of the world and prepare them for the continuation of more advanced level courses in secondary school.
